The Faculty of Health Sciences at Universitas Dirgantara Marsekal Suryadarma (UNSURYA) successfully held the Basic Trauma and Cardiac Life Support (BTCLS) training program over six days, from July 22 to 27, 2025. The training adopted a blended learning model, consisting of three days of online sessions and three days of in-person practical sessions, involving a total of 64 participants62 Nursing Diploma (D3) students and 2 lecturers.


Opening Ceremony

The BTCLS training was officially opened by the Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences, First Air Marshal (Ret.) I Dewa Ketut Kertawidana, SKM., MKKK. In his opening remarks, he emphasized the importance of mastering trauma and cardiac arrest emergency skills as essential competencies for every nurse.

The opening ceremony was also attended by:

  • Mr. Eko Periyanto, SST, S.Kep., Ns, S.Tr.Kes, MA, representative of Medical Service Training 119 (training partner),

  • Vice Dean,

  • Head of the Nursing Diploma Program,

  • Faculty members,

  • And the organizing committee.

Online Training (July 22–24, 2025): Theoretical Foundation

During the first three days, participants attended online training sessions via a digital platform, focusing on core BTCLS theoretical knowledge. Topics included:

  • Legal and ethical aspects of emergency nursing,

  • Fundamentals of trauma and cardiac arrest emergencies,

  • Principles of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR),

  • Airway, circulation, and bleeding management,

  • Victim evacuation procedures,

  • Emergency response team formation.

The online sessions not only strengthened the participants’ theoretical understanding but also encouraged interactive discussions between students, lecturers, and instructors from Medical Service Training 119.

In-Person Training (July 25–27, 2025): Clinical Practice Enhancement

From July 25 to 27, the training continued with in-person practical sessions held in the nursing laboratory and practice rooms of UNSURYA’s Faculty of Health Sciences. Under the close supervision of certified BTCLS instructors, participants practiced:

  • CPR techniques,

  • Bag-Valve-Mask (BVM) ventilation,

  • Victim transfer techniques,

  • Team-based emergency simulations.

These sessions provided realistic and valuable hands-on experiences, strengthening the participants’ readiness for real-life emergency situations.


Disaster and Code Blue Simulations

The highlight of the training was the Mass Casualty Disaster Simulation held on the final day. In this scenario, participants were challenged to:

  • Perform victim triage using the START system (Simple Triage and Rapid Treatment),

  • Form and coordinate an emergency response team,

  • Simultaneously manage multiple trauma patients and critical cases.

A realistic “Code Blue” simulation was also conducted in the ward using manikins and an alarm system to train participants to recognize, respond, and act swiftly during in-hospital cardiac arrest events.

Awards and Recognition

As a form of appreciation for participants’ dedication, enthusiasm, and skill, an awards session was held at the closing ceremony to honor the top three performers based on theoretical knowledge, individual practice, teamwork, and simulation performance.

In his speech, the Dean stated:

“This award is not just a competition, but a recognition of competence and dedication. We hope the participants continue to hone their skills and set an example for their peers.”

Award Recipients:

  • 🥇 1st Place: Mochamad Syarip Hidayat – Demonstrated excellence in CPR and outstanding leadership in the Code Blue simulation.

  • 🥈 2nd Place: Maudy Alfianti Panggabean – Highly responsive in disaster scenarios and skillful in triage.

  • 🥉 3rd Place: Syifa Auliya – Consistently active, disciplined, and an exemplary participant throughout the training.

 

The awards were presented directly by the Dean, witnessed by all participants and committee members. Winners were selected based on technical accuracy, response speed, teamwork, and discipline.

Closing Ceremony: A Commitment to Patient Safety

The training concluded on July 27, 2025, marked by enthusiasm and optimism. In the closing remarks, the organizing committee extended heartfelt gratitude to all contributors, especially the Medical Service Training 119 team, organizing committee, supervising lecturers, and all participants for their commitment.

The Dean expressed his hope that graduates of the BTCLS program would become frontline responders in saving lives and agents of change in fostering a culture of patient safety across healthcare facilities.
